Today I finally got one of my musical needs fulfilled (sounds dirty lol but far from it). I managed to score the D’Banj and the Mo’Hits All Stars album from a friend today. Apparently, you receive the album when you make a purchase from Mr. Biggs in Nigeria. Oh the joy. The album is called C.V. (Curriculum Vitae). After my fourth listen almost immediately I must say this is one of the strongest albums from Naij in 2007. I mean this album is literally filled with hits from Track 1 (the hugely popular Move your body) down to track 15 (Stop the Violence).

The Artists

D’Banj – Need I talk about D’Banj’s skills as a Nigerian artist? He has awards and accolades to talk for him. The self titled Kokomaster was on no long thing to prove himself on all joints on this album that he was featured in. The opening track Move your body was just a simple showcase of this guy’s skill on the mic. He definitely showed the reason why he and Don Jazzy are reshaping the Naij music scene. Like he says on the Why me Remix…Follow me to Johannesburg, I get them kokolets plenty plenty….”

Wande Coal – Close friends of mine would be tired of me banging on about this guy. I call him the African T-Pain, I mean this dude’s voice is for real. Go to Youtube and see a clip of this dude and D’Banj messing around and watch him break out into singing. That electronic type synthesizer effect in his voice when he is crooning on the mic coupled with Don Jazzy’s bass infused production is just crazy. Not to be seen as just a Mr featuring guy, he proves he is able to carry his weight without no D’Banj or Mo’Hits record cat by having his own solo joint on the album entitled “Ololufe” which by the way is the only solo joint on the album. Ololufe means lover in English terms for non Nigerians. After listening to this and getting emotional, I must say I cannot wait for his solo album. I hope he does not disappoint. The lyrics are good. The track does not sound as your typical Styl Plus crooning. I got my money on this dude for real.

Don Jazzy – say whatever you like about this guy, but just don’t say he cannot produce. He has single handedly helped shape D’Banj’s career and the duo are showing no signs of quitting. Production by him is just off the hook. His styles range broadly. You could easily mistaken his production sound for a Scot Storch sound on “Ololufe”, or a Diddy sound on the “What You Wanna Do” track, or a Mannie Fresh sound on the “Igbe Mi” track. This guy’s production is versatile and sickalicious. All I am saying is do not be silly and play this album without a good bass system, the production is bass heavy and would have you nodding and doing the yahooose windmill dance with unabashed shame…Bring on summer…FI LE

The other artists are relatively new to me but did carry their weight on this album. They were S.I.D, D’Prince and K-Switch. Hopefully we would be hearing more from these guys.

Production
All tracks are all produced by Don Jazzy except Track 11 – No Long Thing and Jasi. These two were produced by Icon and Dr. Frabz respectively. Lets quickly talk bout these two. I feel Jasi could be a next single off the album. It has got all the perfect ingredients for the club bangers. Fast tempo with an infectious carnival-esque feel to it coupled with the infectious crooning of Wande Coal, you have a hit.

Why Me Remix? – Don Jazzy, D’Banj and Wande Coal – this track is dance floor filler with the turn table scratches, heavy bass and Mexican trumpet. A perfect remix for the hugely popular Why Me song…..Fi Le!!!!!

Conclusion
A very heavy album production wise and theme wise. They are not here to preach about global warming or any political issues that might be bugging you. D’banj and the all stars are here to make you dance and have a good time and this album definitely pulls this off. With no extremely weak tracks to pull the consistency of this album down, this album scores a solid 9/10 for me. The curriculum vitae of Mo Hits records shows that they have a lot to offer to the Nigerian music scene to help move it forward and bring the Nigerian music to a worldwide fan base.

2007, we back , alive kicking and better. It has been a gajillion years since we made a post on this website, but trust me, it has nto been in vain, we have been extremely busy. This year is massive year for us and you readers of SIP, we shall be ensuring a minimum of 3 posts a week. a lot of stuff has gone down last year, we had a lot of goodies hit us, "Retired" Jay Z released an album, Mr Nasir "I am mad at hip Hop" Jones released an album whinging that hip hop is dead, but then We can't really blame him seeing as we spent half the year, doing the "Chicken Noodle Soup" thanks to Dj Webstar, infact they went on to release an album which I wisely haven't listened to.
The Clipse album finally made it to every good record store near you but not until Pharrell made us listen and chuck his album out the window, well well, I can tell you now that that album is safe In My Trash...Stick to making beats Son. Later on we all bleated to the sound of One Blood from The Game's album wierdly titled "The Doctor's Advocate" but seriously, yes thats right, Dre was not on the album, still Game gets love. Busta Rhymes made us touch it bring it babe watch it turn it leave it stop format it. Then dropped the all star remix which I must say was smacked down in terms of featurings by The Game's One blood remix featuring every prominent male figure in the rap game excluding right 50 Cent. The stand out feature for me through the year was definitely Jim Jones....BALLLIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. Damn, Jimmy slammed this year, talking greasy infact greasier than ever, favourite line of the year "..I come down and smack Nas's Kufi of his head, you smell me" lolllllllllllllllllllll, if that ain't one hell of a line.
MAtter of fact 2006 was a bloody eventful year, I shall be posting the awards soon so watch out.

The End of Big Brother UK...And Hopefully Any Subsequent Series

Last week, the worst program ever to grace tv (even spanning back to when tv was black and white without speech) came to a very welcoming end. This already had proved too late as the detrimental effect of the program on the nation had already gone far past the point of no return. So detrimental was the effect that after the show four different magazines had "the first interview by Pete" articles as headlines and each one of these magazines were displayed side by side at newstands with vegetable members of the public picking up these four different magazines to read the four "first interviews" by big brother winner Pete which just was a plain sorry sight to behold. The end of series 7 og Big Brother Uk was the most welcoming thing ever. Gosh, it was horrible and nobody (apart from me ofcourse) could have summed this show up better than the writer of this article.

Pete's victory was assured the minute he staggered, gurning and spewing expletives, into the house 13 weeks ago, despite barely-disguised attempts to con the public into voting for Nikki. This, of course, had nothing to do with the fact that she'd already been signed up for her own E4 show, in which she 'attempts to hold down a job'...

Look I was just bout to sleep, obviously YouTube had to be checked before I went to sleep, why would K-Fed do this. This is the most horriblest performance I've witnessed in a while, I found myself looking at the dancers instead and like completely ignored him. I cannot deny the fact that the beat was almost on par, but K fed gettin introduced by his skimpily dressed Pimp...sorry i meant wife even made matters worse. Woke up this morning and the heat was killing me, Damn, please let it rain rain rain. So im listening to Robin Thicke's Wanna Love U Gurl Remix, and I am checking up the best place in the world YouTube and I find RObin chilling with The Real Favourite Rapper's Favourite Rapper and that is NOT jeezy, its WEEZY. They had the Video for Shooter off The Carter II album (which still remains one of the best albums this year has seen), but wen I coppped the album, i played it out and I never thought for a second that was Robin on Shooter. Oh well, its a good combo and shows weezy has the talent to to be versatile. He still remains in my books as one of the Top 5 rappers. Its a nice video, which is more that can be said for the spastic Beyonce's Deja Vu video.

Thanks to C&D i checked out the validity about the Beyonce stans who wanted a change to the De Ja Vu video...I always thought the video was crap and just plainly overdone but i do not like Beyonce, so i do not care.

This video is an underwhelming representation of the talent and quality of previous music video projects of Ms. Knowles. The following problems have been pointed out by numerous fans on and offline:

A) There is no clear story or theme to the video
B) The dancing is erratic, confusing and alarming at times
C) The sexual themes and shots between Ms. Knowles and Mr. Sean Carter PKA Jay-Z, are alarming and show unacceptable interactions between the two
D) The fashion in this video, while haute-couture, is unbelievable and ridiculous
E) The editing, while professionally done, causes one to get dizzy and disoriented
F) The overall feel of the video leaves a sense of much to be desired
G) The video is very disappointing and is not a clear representation of any of the songs themes

We, the fans of one Beyonce' Knowles, ask that an alternative video be shot featuring; more choreographed & less spontaneous dancing, clearer visual themes that relate to the lyrics of the song, less gyrating, less scenes of non-existant sexual chemistry between Mr. Carter and Ms. Knowles, less zooming and quick cut edits and a more stylized and clear direction for all other aspects of the video production.

Suggested in this re-shoot would be the hire of another producer besides Ms. Sophie Mueller -- one more acclimated to urban themes and imagery in music videos, other than Hype "Letterbox" Williams.

Well well, just when my Idlewild Fever is reaching sickening levels, I get this through YOuTube (best invention so far). New Outkast video for the single Morris Brown which features Big Boi only. Now it has come to a point where i really hate to say this but is Outkast heading towards the rock, I hate to be a doubter but the signs are jus showing there real hard. Andre was not in the freaking video. IT CANNOT BE AN OUTKAST SONG WITHOUT ANDRE NOT EVEN SHOWING UP IN THE VIDEO, please sort this out. Scar and Janelle Monae looked big big big in the video, Janelle jus soo damn cute. Video rating is a 3.5, for some reason i am still stuck on the touch it remix video.

Oh well, you know the gut feeling you get when you see an artist and you know this dude has been on the wrongest lael for time and he should be on Def Jam (talking bout the def jam pre Rick ROss era). well it is pretty official, the boy F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S is signed to Def Jam now. Theres has been some past speculations but it is pretty much set in stone now. He joins a few rap greats (can we still include LL Cool J in this speculation), a few rap lows (RIck ROss), a few rap barbies (RIhanna), oh Lord, what has become of my fave Label, oh well, there is still good old OKAyPLayer to fall back on.
But seriously Def Jam have been signing pretty wierd people, i mean a rapper who sells over a million units making orgasmic noises (Young Jeezy, yeaaaaaaaaah dats rightttttt) i can handle but a rapper called Young Leek, i don't know wot to make about it, a rapper called Rick Ross, i still don't kno, but i like only one line from all his songs yup thats it "whip it whip it real hard".

As usual im back, this time with some at least I hope they are current juicy news. One thing for sure that’s got all the blogs talking is the BET performance. We don’t get bet in this crazy London so I would not try and make any comments on the whole shows, but you got to love the internet, already someone nice somewhere has upped a clip to download and it was the performance by BUsta. You I am a crazy Busta fan, I finally admit it, he has some energy not to be compared to other artists and his shows are always up to par.

Busta’s show started with a recap on “I love my chick” feat Will I Am BEP, and Kelis. Mad crazy, the beat just keeps me going mad plus the fact that I actually love a chick heheh, y’all ain’t knowing nada, back to post.

My Review of this performance – It was a performance to be expected from a person like busta. The mosy surprising bit was with eminem. That I never saw coming. Missy wearing the stupid gold outfit reminiscent of some Micheal Jackson circa 1990 stage outfit. Missy walked in with her annoying bubblegum rap “I look like nia long” shit looking like Captain Tin foil, leaves a bad taste in my mouth her wardrobe does.

All the peeps from the remix were onstage except DMX, im not going to try and find where he was, probably in some driving mishap.

Okay its been a while and both SIP writers have been away, but that does not mean we have kept our ears open and thing. Matter of fact, its been mad busy for me, your boy passed his second year in uni and off to the final year now, KimLeeStar is busy hustling 4 jobs, how she does it i would never kno, so every lil time i get is spent sleeping and whatnot. Still, it sems to me that the jiggaman be making power moves and what not. first having a sold out concert in 3 minutes, thats right y'all the reasonable doubt concert sold out in 3 mins. Now he is having a preview concert of the Reasonable Doubt concert. Is this not the craziest thing u ever seen, he signs Nas, def Jam trims some artist fat aka Christina Milian, but shes been spotted around in some places though. There are some runours flying around about Bey Z (beyonce and Jay Z breaking up---->seriously like that is doing something in my life, absolutely pointless). Then the Deja Vu track is out as well featuring Jay on it as well. Most people kept uttering the same lines "i thought Jay Z has retired", well with the amount of work this dude has been upto, i would say he definitely is not retired. I still see Jay Z as a full fledged artist. Retired is when you sit down and catch every rerun of the News of the Day on CNN at 1pm, 3pm, 6pm and 10pm and for some reason Jay does not qualify as that.
So moving i started this post cuz i recently read that Jay is going to be doing an International tour (seriously this guy is not retired) and he would be starting in England in September, and he would be touching a host of other places but what smacked it is he is landing in my Country, hell YEAH JAY MIGHT BE LANDING IN NIGERIA y'all, seriously, stat booking flights home all u JAy Z stans (Dokun Ajayi et al). I remember arguing with my people over who was better Jay Z or Nas, well i still stand firmly by my man (no homo nor brokeback). I mean, Nas has clearly had a better run plus he is married to the finest Milkshake seller in history---> Kelis

I mean come on guys presented with Kelis or Beyonce, it is not exactly rocket science now, well well well, moving on smoothly, another argument that has always won my Nas is the best debate is "Who made the better first album?" NAS, Illmatic is the sickest shit ever to be recorded on tape, cd, vinyl and what other format. I've been following their sound for a while, theres been a buzz on their name in the UK for a while now.
Alotta gurls been running around screaming the Amplifyd name and how good they are. I thought maybe it was a bunch of fly nigerian brothers then I peeped them and they actually do have a sound. Based in Washington DC, this grouped formed round about 2001. Today I am feeling a little worn out. Yesterday was crazy, went to some party and ting, and then went to this really crap ass club in Holborn called Browns, Lord this is sooooooooo whack. Really really really whack, i mean it...i don't even want to tlk about it. Still i have spent the whole day lazing, feasting my eyes on the world cup, watched the England and Paraguay match which as usual in typical england stylee started off really interesting (point to wayne rooney stans England won even with dude on bench), england scored their first goal with a beautiful free kick from beckham, that dude jhas skills. all of y'all that argue with me owe me some money i guess now. Then i watched the most surprising match which was between trinidad and Tobago and Sweden. Which was a draw, really surprising. both sides had good opportunities still and the refereee made a nice game without unnecessary calls unlike what can be said for the ~~dickhead~~ referee in the England match. Absolutely shocking, kinda like reading that Lil Kim might be getting out of jail on the 5th of July apparently on good behaviour, lets hope shes learned lesson.
Seriously fuck the no snitching campaign, if someone has taken someone else's life please report to the police, think if it was your own family. this no snitching is killing us black people. Lil kim had a bad ass album released just before she entered prison, she could have enjoyed and
promoted the album more if she was not in prison, oh well its jus my view.

Another surprising thing is the alleged sold out status of the Jay Z reasonable doubt concert. Apparently, Hov got sold out in 3 mins or something ridiculous if so, I bet you would not hear much of such accomplishments on radio or TV, i bet if the rollingstones or one of them half caked white bands did such i'll be watchin it on tv right next to the shooting of yet another innocent person shot by police and also arrested his brother in over zealous terrorist crackdowns in Uk.

As usual the "treat us special because we are muslim" organisation for UK and certain dubious characters have come out to protest in their not so subtle manner but I was impressed with the way a member of the family of the brothers addressed the issue asking members of the muslim society to act civil and protest normally rather than act the fool as this this helps to stop the police from carrying out such acts on other innocent muslim families like his. I think im going to sleep now actually, nothing much to do on a saturday.

So our main job at SIP is to bring to you the deal with what's going on in the world today.
We aim to serve the Naija-Uk-Canada hybrids that exist out there but mainly we aim to bring you straight up info that deserves to be heard.
We have so much to expose, so much to tell, so enough of talking about "wastemen" as Mr Starks would say, let's talk about ASH.

To be in the presence of an artist filled with passion and soul is an opportunity that only presents itself once in a while. Or in this day and age once every couple of years.However, once filled with the gifts that such talent has to offer, it's rather hard to forget the experience.Determined individuals can never be forgotten.Sammir, known to many as "Ash" is one determined man.

So let's begin the journey: Summer of a long long time ago, I was in London for a bit, stopping over before I went home to Nigeria on holiday.A friend of mine introduced me to a young man who many referred to as Ash. Ash was a guy struggling to make it in the music industry. He was at the stage where all singers/rappers/actors either make it or break it. The stage filled with open promises, address books filled with contacts but no physical contacts taking place, the stage that requires the love of the game to keep you going, the stage where most talented people fall.His aura was filled with hope, determination radiating through his actions, through his voice and through his dream.

We chilled, spent some time talking about various things and by the end of the night, a french rap duo who shall remain unnamed show up to lay down a couple tracks, lay down some lyrics and so on.The scenario was one of excitement and huge anticipation, which normally tends to happen when a group of talented individuals come together to create or draw up the master plan of a unique masterpiece.The energy in the room was electrifying. Music being sculpted and moulded by artists with a vision.

To be part of something like that is undeniablly unforgetable.As the energy in the room became one, the multi talented man they call Ash shows his true colours in the form of producer, singer,and writer as the evening progresses.Based on one song that was collaborated on it was clear to see, this man doesn't play.Straight out of the homeland Nigeria, Ash has been on the UK music scene for a couple years now. He made it to the UK garage and club charts with the single Bounce To This in 2003. The man stayed on top for a good couple of weeks, soaring high at number one. Ash was showing the world that he truly is "Immaqul'8", which also happens to be the name of entertainment company that he runs, Immaqul'8 (pronounced Immaqulate) Entertainment.

Taking time off to enhance his sound and prepare himself for an even greater come back...the man the music industry know as Ash or the business industry know as Abdul Sammir Hamman is more than ready for a full come back.
Watch this space people becuase he's a guy that doesnt do it small, the Uk Naija scene ain't ready, he's a storm just waiting to happen.

Sprite, yeah WHO?
The limey lemon drink with fizz has abandoned their "Obey Your Thirst Slogan" to better appeal to the world as they just don't seem to be giving in to the damn thirst.
I'm not quite too sure what to make of all this but hey it's news. Personally I couldn't give a damn about Sprite and their ad campaign and it seems nobody else cares either, just another excuse for the stars to come out of their.......no wait they are always out.
Totally forgot they had nothing better to do anyways.
Anyway yeah, Sprite has hooked up with the main men of the hip hop clothing world aka Etnies, LRG, Rocawear, Triple Five Soul and WESC to stage the first-ever Sprite Street Couture Showcase and to celebrate the national re-launch of Sprite. Glad the man Jigga is in there, business is business.
The event went down and excuse me if i'm not too thrilled...Just don't care really!

whilst browsing the internet (like i do every hour of my sad sad life) i came across this artist who goes by the name Justin Bua. Be4 i mention his name i would jus put a work of his up and watch your jaw drop.
This is called The Piano Man 2. AMazing , its like you can feel the soul from the picture, he has more amazing paintings on his website which i must warn you to make sure u have no future appointments be4 u view cuz u are going to spend a lot of time jus gazing at his work. Aight as I have vented that out, I hope we can all live in peace now and go about our lives without worrying about if I would make it home if I get on my Lovely Jubilee and district line or when I hit the vintage section in Topman on Oxford Street.
